Microsoft Copilot provides free access to GPT-4. For those who want more, since January 14, Microsoft has offered a Pro version billed at 22 euros per month. A justified investment?

In mid-January, Microsoft rolled out Copilot Pro, the “pro” version of its AI assistant. For 20 dollars or 22 euros per month, customers can benefit from additional features. Those who settle for the free version, however, do not necessarily have reason to feel wronged; here’s why.

From companies with more than 300 employees to individuals

We no longer present Microsoft Copilot, the chatbot from the Redmond firm which squats Windows 11 as well as Windows 10, and which will be at the heart of Windows 12. This assistant boosted with artificial intelligence, replacing Bing Chat, is powered by GPT- 4 for queries and by DALL-E 3 for image generation.

Everyone can have access to the free version of Microsoft Copilot and thus experiment with GPT-4: either via the copilot.microsoft.com website, or directly via Windows and the Edge browser. The only prerequisite for individuals is to have a Microsoft account.

Since January 14, Microsoft has given individuals access to a Pro version for 20 dollars or 22 euros per month. Remember that initially, the Pro version was reserved for companies with more than 300 employees; it is now also offered to more modest structures.

The Redmond firm explains that this subscription offers “the most advanced features and capabilities of Microsoft Copilot” and states that it is mainly aimed at people who wish to optimize their Copilot experience with gains in performance, productivity and creativity.

In fact, Microsoft Copilot Pro mainly provides deeper integration within the Microsoft ecosystem; it integrates with Microsoft 365 apps on PC, Mac and iPad for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers.

A chatbot to boost productivity?

Subscribers can take advantage of the AI assistant in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and OneNote. Naturally, the capabilities of the chatbot vary depending on the application, but everywhere it takes on the role of an advisor capable of answering questions on how to properly use this software.

Without detailing all the functionalities application by application (they are often the subject of specific news), the chatbot can generate drafts in Word or create presentations in PowerPoint based on the elements provided by the user. It is capable of summarizing texts in Word, emails in Outlook, but also capable of writing for you; to highlight correlations in Excel or to suggest formulas. Basically, he can do some work and provide valuable advice.

Besides the aforementioned incorporation, the Pro subscription provides other benefits. Among these, proprietary access to GPT-4 Turbo – the latest version of the OpenAI model – including during peak hours, or 100 boosts per day for Image Creator from Designer (formerly Bing Image Creator) , a higher quality AI image creation tool offering a landscape format. Finally, subscribers also have the opportunity to create the Copilot GPT of their dreams, specialized in a field, through Copilot GPT Builder.

Should you go for Copilot Pro?

This will be an answer from Normand, but we answer “it depends”. In a professional context in particular, if you believe that the promised productivity gains are likely to save you time (to process dozens of emails received daily, for example), to make you more efficient and therefore more profitable, it is without doubt doubt appropriate to agree to the 20 dollars per month requested.

This is also the somewhat standard price for this type of assistant: ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro cost the same price. As you will have understood, the advantage of Copilot lies above all in its marriage with Microsoft 365.

For an occasional user of Copilot, on the other hand, who is satisfied with the functionalities of the free version, there is little reason to upgrade to the higher version in the current state of the service.

Finally, please note that the subscription is without obligation. Additionally, in some countries including France and Canada, cancellation results in a pro-rata refund.
