Corinne Deacon remains at the head of Les Bleues until the end of the 2024 Olympic Games

No change. One year from the World Cup (in Australia and New Zealand) and two years from the Paris Olympics, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), Noël Le Graët, had warned on July 28, the day after the elimination in the semi-finals of the Euro, he intended to renew Corinne Deacon at the head of the French women’s football team, provided that the latter accepts his proposal. This is what she did on Tuesday August 2.

In office since 2017, the coach of the Bleues extends her mandate for two years, until August 2024, that is to say until the Olympic Games in Paris (which will take place from July 26 to August 11). “I am happy and proud to continue the adventure with the French team for these two additional seasons, which are bound to be very rich with a competition each year”she said in a statement.

Noël Le Graët, who has defended his coach in recent years when she had made strong choices, even if it meant alienating certain players, said to himself “delighted that Corinne accepted the challenge”. “We share the same strong ambition for these two major competitions”explained the leader.

After its elimination in the semi-finals of the Euro by Germany (2-1), the French women’s football team is still in search of a first international title. Corinne Deacon admitted that this result had aroused the ” disappointment “, even if the objective set by the FFF, that of appearing in the last four, has been achieved. This had not happened in an international competition since the London Olympics in 2012.

The coach nevertheless felt that the course of this Euro was “encouraging” for the sequel. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with this group in the hope of winning the first title for the French women’s team, first in the World Cup, then at the Olympics in front of our public. . »

In an interview with AFP just after the Euro, Noël Le Graët had estimated that“With Corinne we are on the right track. It was harder, but we are progressing”.
