The new Corona aid is intended to help families, low-wage earners, the gastronomy and cultural workers. Who gets what?

Since last Wednesday (February 4) it has been clear that the grand coalition is providing further financial injections in the billions for all those who are most suffering from the corona pandemic and the lockdown associated with it. You can find out which private individuals and companies are entitled to subsidies and tax exemptions here.

Help for parents and those on low incomes

For every child for whom child benefit is paid, parents can expect a further one-off payment of 150 euros. This amount is automatically paid out with the child benefit. However, the tax exemption will not be increased – if you earn well, you will lose parts of this amount the next time you settle income tax. The help is therefore primarily intended for low-income earners with children.

Speaking of low-wage earners: Those who are dependent on basic security (Hartz-IV) are also entitled to a one-time special payment of 150 euros. In addition, access to basic security is now easier until the end of 2021. This is especially intended to help self-employed people who have got into financial need due to the crisis.

Particularly affected: gastronomy and culture

For all companies, the so-called "tax loss carry-back" has been changed, ie doubled. This is intended to secure the liquidity of companies, and taxes could also be saved. The President of the Central Association of German Crafts, Hans Peter Wollseifer, criticized this step according to the "Handwerksblatt" with the words: "Only the amount of the loss carry-back was temporarily increased, but unfortunately the carry-back period was not extended . "

Two particularly troubled branches of the economy are supported with separate measures: gastronomy and culture. Until the end of 2022, the value added tax for food in the catering trade will be reduced to seven percent. Originally, this should only apply until June 30, 2021.

Time and again, artists and cultural workers have felt abandoned by the government. In order to help them, another billion euros will be made loose as a follow-up program for the rescue package "New Start Culture".
