The corona vaccinations continue: Group 2 is now being vaccinated in the first federal states. But who does it include – and how do I get a vaccination appointment?

New corona infections are increasing again in Germany. But there is good news too: vaccinations seem to be picking up speed. In the first federal states it was announced that vaccination group two is now in line. But what does that actually mean? Which prioritization do I belong to and how do I get my vaccination appointment? We give the overview.

Who belongs to vaccination group 2?

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the following groups of people belong to level two:

  • People aged 75 to 79
  • People with Down syndrome, dementia or intellectual disabilities and those working in this field
  • High-risk medical facility personnel, such as:
    • Infection, family doctor and pediatric practices
    • KV emergency service, public health service with personal contact
    • ENT, eye and dental practices
    • Paramedic: inside
    • Corona smear centers

The Robert Koch Institute currently distinguishes between six small-scale levels when it comes to vaccination prioritization, while the Federal Ministry of Health speaks of three large prioritization groups at the same time. Depending on which guideline the federal state acts according to, people aged 70 and over could also fall into group two – the prioritization can be found at the federal ministry.

How do I get a vaccination appointment?

The vaccinations are still regulated by the federal states. Each country announces individually when the next group can report for vaccination. Most of the time, information about the status is provided directly via the state website.

In some federal states, such as Schleswig-Holstein, there is a special website on which you can make an appointment for a vaccination if you belong to the prioritized group. Here you will also get specific information as to whether you are already eligible for vaccination.

North Rhine-Westphalia wants to start vaccinating group two from mid-March, as does Rhineland-Palatinate. Schleswig-Holstein wants to start assigning appointments for the next group from March 9th.

In many countries, however, certain age groups are still excluded from prioritizing two: In Schleswig-Holstein, from next week, only people in the second group who are under 65 can register. The background to this is that there is enough AstraZeneca vaccine available, but that it has not yet been approved for people over 65 years of age.
