Corona aktuell: Three mask problems – and how we can solve them

In November, "Lockdown Light" applies throughout Germany. In order to contain the coronavirus, we have to adhere to the contact restrictions and the mask requirement. And with these tricks, everything becomes a lot easier.

1. How do you understand me best – despite the mask?

Those who speak through a mouth and nose cover often have the feeling that they are not being understood correctly by their counterpart. But if we concentrate, speak clearly and avoid unnecessarily complicated explanations, others can understand us easily. It gets more complicated, however, when we want to speak louder. Through the masks, the sound will no longer reach the front as freely, the vocal cords are stressed twice by constant loud talking, as voice trainer Brigitta Gumpricht from Dortmund explains to "RTL.de". To avoid this, Gumpricht advises you to talk more from your gut.

2. Corona winter: Help! My glasses keep fogging up!

Especially in the cold season, glasses fog up more and more often when wearing mouth and nose protection. To prevent this, the glasses should always be worn over the mask, as the "Kuratorium Gutessehen (KGS) reveals to" RTL.de "because: Breathing air flowing upwards flows past the glasses.

If you still don't have a clear view, you can also sew a wire into the upper part of the mask, with which the mask is then precisely adapted to the shape of the nose. This means that the warm air you breathe can no longer flow upwards, and the glasses remain clean.

3. What garbage does my disposable mask go in?

To ensure protection against infection, disposable masks should be replaced regularly. Used masks end up in the residual waste – under no circumstances in the waste paper, according to the "Association of German Paper Mills". Because: Many disposable masks contain plastic fibers. If these end up in the waste paper, they make the recycling process more difficult and would have to be filtered out. And even protective masks that are made entirely of paper should be disposed of with normal waste to avoid contamination and health risks.
