Corona bonus used up: Söder loses in surveys

Corona bonus used up
Söder loses in polls

As a particularly tough fighter against the corona pandemic, Bavaria's Prime Minister Söder has been collecting points from voters for months. But approval declines over the months. In the meantime, more than half of the citizens of the Free State are dissatisfied with his policies.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder is losing popularity in surveys and has largely forfeited the bonus due to his initial crisis management in the corona pandemic. Currently, less than half of the citizens in the Free State are satisfied with Söder's work, as a survey by the online opinion research institute Civey for the "Augsburger Allgemeine" showed.

The value fell from 71 percent at the height of the first wave of pandemics to currently only 48 percent. At the same time, the proportion of those who are expressly dissatisfied with Söder's work rose to 42 percent. Söder last came to comparable values in February 2019, almost a year before the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

Söder's satisfaction levels are only slightly above those of the CSU: If there were state elections on Sunday, according to the survey, 46 percent of Bavarians would opt for the Christian Socialists. The second strongest force would be the Greens with 19 percent, followed by the SPD with 9 and the Free Voters with 7 percent. The AfD would currently also get 7 percent of the vote in Bavaria. The FDP would miss entry into the state parliament with four percent and the left with three percent according to the current status. This would, however, be enough for a single CSU government.

For the evaluation of the survey on Söder, the answers of 5021 participants from Bavaria were taken into account, with the party preference there were 4528 participants. According to its own information, the Institut Civey only counts the votes of registered and verified Internet users who have given data such as age, place of residence and gender for its representative surveys. The votes were weighted according to a scientific method according to the composition of the Bavarian population. The survey period was from January 15 to February 12, 2021.
