In northern Italy, a young boy awaits life-saving surgery. But that is delayed because his parents are currently taking the hospital to court. They are demanding blood from donors who are not vaccinated against Corona.

A case is causing a sensation in Italy: In Bologna, a two-year-old boy is waiting for a vital heart operation. The doctors at a clinic specializing in this are also willing to carry this out – but the child would need blood transfusions as part of the operation. And the two-year-old’s parents don’t want him to receive the blood from donors who are vaccinated against Corona. However, the doctors urged the operation because the boy’s survival was at stake. Because no agreement could be reached, the case ended up in court.

The family justified their reservations with “religious reasons”, although it is not known in detail which faith is involved. Among Jehovah’s Witnesses, blood transfusions are often rejected outright, but without taking the donor’s vaccination status into account. It is currently not known that other relevant religious groups have a problem with vaccination.

Because of corona vaccination: parents reject blood donors

The boy’s family wanted to forbid the treating hospital to perform the operation with ordinary blood supplies, which delayed the important procedure. The child’s father then asked in relevant Telegram chats for unvaccinated volunteers who would donate blood to his son. However, the hospital refused and explained that the blood supplies that were normally available were absolutely safe and unproblematic. “The selection is subject to compatibility criteria and not to fantasies. Using the blood of unvaccinated people offers no scientific advantage, since the vaccination is not passed on through the blood,” one doctor clarified.

And the court has now confirmed this – a defeat for the parents. It is questionable whether the two-year-old can finally have the surgery to save him. Because his family has the option of appealing the verdict and, according to their lawyer, is still considering doing so.
