Corona crisis: British celebrities applaud medical staff

Doctors, nurses and volunteers are doing immense service to our society during the corona pandemic. Now the British public has thanked their heroes. In London and many other parts of Great Britain, thunderous applause and cheers were heard on Thursday evening. Thousands of people, including many celebrities, stood on their balconies or positioned themselves on rooftops, others opened their windows as far as possible. Many also shared their contributions to the campaign on social media under the hashtag #ClapForOurCarers.

Victoria (45) and David Beckham (44) joined the campaign with their children Romeo (17), Cruz (15) and Harper (8). "We are so proud of you," says David Beckham in a video his wife posted on Instagram. His son Brooklyn (21), who is stuck in the United States because of the corona crisis, also expressed his thanks for the helpers in his home country: he let himself be filmed during a standing ovation. "I'm far from home, but with you in my thoughts," he wrote in his Instagram story.

May wanted from the roof of his house applaud; Stewart and his loved one apparently gathered in their living room. "Be blessed! Thank you for your tireless, hard work," said the musician in a Twitter video.

Royals are recognizable

The crown even bows to the kind of merit that hospital employees and police officers are making these days. Prince William (37) and his wife Duchess Kate (38) published a video of their children George (6), Charlotte (4) and Louis (1) on Instagram. The kids applaud wildly.

Prince Charles (71) knows best how important it is to use doctors and nurses in this difficult time. He recently tested positive for the virus. Together with his wife, Duchess Camilla (72), he also participated in the #ClapForOurCarers social media campaign. In an Instagram story, the two shared a montage of thanking doctors, nurses and helpers for their efforts by clapping.

Even at Windsor Castle, people showed themselves to be recognizable for the work of the helpers. A video of the royal family shared on Twitter, captures how the staff thanks pot slaps and cheers.

Action reduces stress

The campaign was a complete success: ex "Top Gear" presenter James May (57) therefore even suggests on Twitterto make the applause a ritual. This is not only very moving, but also makes sense. "Knocking around on a saucepan like a savage with a wooden spoon relieves stress and could keep many couples in isolation from killing each other," he quips.
