Corona crisis: The RTL Easter event "The Passion" does not take place

The corona crisis is causing the next TV cancellation: RTL has canceled the planned Easter live event "The Passion" with Alexander Klaws and Co.

It was supposed to be the Easter spectacle of the year, but the corona crisis forces the next TV production to its knees. "The live music event 'Die Passion', which was supposed to take place live on April 8, 2020 on the Burgplatz in Essen, has been canceled," said the RTL broadcaster. The city of Essen has "a new general order for the purpose of preventing and spreading the coronavirus", it continues. "Among other things, this prohibits events and gatherings of people from more than 15 people in public spaces."

Alexander Klaws and Thomas Gottschalk affected

"Of course we understand the decision of the city of Essen. Responsible action is now also important for us. The health and containment of the virus are in the foreground. We thank everyone involved for the heart and soul they have put into the preparations so far" declared RTL entertainment chief Kai Sturm to the cancellation.

"The Passion" was to depict the last days in the life of Jesus Christ, which the new "DSDS" moderator Alexander Klaws (36, "On stage, ready, go!") Should play. Other celebrities such as Laith Al-Deen, Mark Keller and Ella Finally should "use German pop songs to bring the more than 2000 year old story to life and transport the dramatic events into our times". Thomas Gottschalk (69) was intended to be the narrator of the passion story.
