The German Child Protection Association is calling for the holidays to be extended due to the corona crisis – until the end of January. A fundamental improvement in the situation is not to be expected.

The corona crisis is getting worse. After the first measures had hardly had any impact, Germany has been in a tough lockdown for the second time this year since last Wednesday. This initially applies until January 10th – but now the German Child Protection Association (DKSB) is calling for a further measure for schools.

Child protection association wants to extend the holidays

As the "Rheinische Post" reports, DKSB association president Heinz Hilgers is calling for an extension of the school holidays until the end of January. The reason: At the moment, it doesn't look like the Corona crisis will spread until 10.1. improve. If the number of infections in Germany does not drop massively, the German Child Protection Association simply sees no other choice than to leave the children at home. In return, the summer vacation should be shortened by three weeks.

So far, the federal government's measures have only included the clear recommendation to leave schoolchildren and daycare children at home if possible. Depending on the federal state, schools are to be closed or compulsory attendance suspended.

If the infection situation in Germany does not relax by January 10, the measures could be extended. On Monday, the Robert Koch Institute reported more than 16,000 new infections within 24 hours. This means that the numbers are roughly at the level of the previous week – a few days ago, however, the negative record of over 30,000 new infections in Germany within one day was reported. The seven-day incidence is at its peak today at 197.1 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Health experts like Karl Lauterbach only speak of an easing of the situation when the incidence is below 50, at best below 25 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
