Corona current: German tourists are allowed to go to Mallorca from June 15th

Many had already completely written off their summer vacation 2020 because of the corona pandemic, but the prospects are good at the moment: travel within Germany is now possible again and our freedom of movement is increasing more and more across Europe. The Spanish archipelago of the Balearic Islands, which is particularly popular with German holidaymakers, will again be open to tourists from June 15 – however only a limited number and under certain conditions.

Pilot project with German vacationers

Although Spain only opens its borders to tourism on July 1st, holidays in the Balearic Islands are already possible again as part of a pilot project from June 15th. According to the "Spiegel" report, a total of 10,900 tourists are allowed to travel: 4,000 are accommodated in Mallorca, and 1,000 places are available on the islands of Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The vacationers should be flown in little by little, a quarantine is not necessary after entry.

Precondition for the exclusive ticket: stay on the island for at least 5 days and come from Germany. Since the epidemiological situation looks very good in this country and is similar to that in the Balearic Islands, we are going for the pilot project exclusively German tourists authorized. According to the authorities, the purpose of the entire company is to prepare for the expected rush of tourists from July 1. B. to check whether the security measures at the airports and in the hotels are sufficient and effective.

How can you book?

If you do not have your own finca on a Balearic island, you will be bound to certain hotels and tour operators in the period from June 15, since individual tourism is not initially planned. The tour operators TUI, DER Touristik and Schauinsland Reisen have set up the pilot project together with four local hotel chains in coordination with the Balearic authorities, so those interested can contact them best. In Mallorca, the first tourists are accommodated in Playa de Palma and in the Bay of Alcúdia. According to media reports, there is currently talk of a similar pilot project in the Canary Islands.
