Another corona outbreak was reported in a slaughterhouse. It is not the only one: numerous meat factory employees are currently in quarantine.

The corona numbers remain at a high level. The Robert Koch Institute continues to report tens of thousands of new infections across Germany. Infections in nursing homes and schools dominate the news – but meat factories are also coming back into the public eye. Another corona outbreak has now been reported in a slaughterhouse.

Infected employees in meat factory

According to NDR, an employee of a meat processing company in the Glandorf area of Osnabrück is said to have tested positive for the corona virus. Originally, only one infected person was discovered in a rapid test on Friday; further tests at the beginning of the week are said to have detected further infections. Now the meat factory has stopped production for the time being. This is to prevent further spread of the coronavirus among employees.

Tönnies slaughterhouse also affected by Corona again

It is not the first outbreak of this kind. Just last week there were again talk of numerous infected people at a Tönnies slaughterhouse in Weißenfeld. As reported by the mdr, among others, more than 170 employees in the company are said to have tested positive for the corona virus. The infected were then taken to a separate quarantine accommodation.

41 infected employees were also reported in a slaughterhouse in Landshut, Bavaria. According to information from br24, a total of 49 people were quarantined at the weekend.

What is striking about the outbreaks is that they were all uncovered by series tests. This detail shows once again how quickly and, above all, how unnoticed the coronavirus can spread. Infected people can be contagious before the onset of symptoms or develop no symptoms at all – but still carry the virus on.
