Corona current: New symptom discovered?

Little by little we will learn more about the coronavirus. A new case now indicates that abdominal pain could also be a symptom of the infection.

Dry cough, fever, loss of the sense of taste and smell: the list of symptoms that can indicate a corona infection is getting longer and longer. It is particularly difficult to distinguish the infection from a common cold. A new case from Queensland in Australia now shows that other everyday complaints can also indicate a corona infection: According to the Daily Mail, one nurse only suffered from severe abdominal or abdominal pain, before testing positive for Covid-19.

Abdominal pain as the only symptom

The nurse apparently observed his physical condition very closely. Apart from the sudden abdominal pain, he did not have any symptoms typical of a corona infection. Nevertheless, the attentive man was tested – the result was positive. The 37-year-old is now suffering from other comparatively mild symptoms and is being treated in hospital.

Queensland Deputy Prime Minister Steven Miles said of the case: "He had a stomach ache that is not usually a symptom of Covid-19. But he was very smart to see that it could be a symptom of corona." According to Miles, the case shows clearlythat it is important for all of us to listen to our bodies, to observe our state of health and take it seriously. But it is also clear: Not all complaints that people who have tested positive have to be due to the coronavirus.

Not the first case

In fact, it is not the first time that abdominal pain has been a possible symptom of corona infection. In a study published in May in Royal College of Physicians was published, doctors reported atypical symptoms in three patients at the Montpellier hospital. Those affected also suffered from abdominal pain, a subsequent test for the coronavirus was positive.
