Corona current: pharmacy code helps women with domestic violence

A lot of time at home, a lot of time with your partner, a lot of time with your family. Mostly, it's holidays that we associate with such situations. Most of the time these phases are limited – and mostly we enjoy them. But for other people, they mean acute danger. Every fourth woman is or has ever been a victim of violence from her current or former partner.

Experts regularly warn of an increase in domestic violence. This is often the case at Christmas. Now we are dealing with a situation the end of which cannot be estimated: in the corona crisis, people are forced to spend a lot of time at home, with their family or partner. But what if the threat doesn't just come from a virus out there – but from the person you share a sofa with?

Domestic violence on the corona crisis: help in the pharmacy

In this case, pharmacies have now taken measures. They are still open – and can thus become an important contact point for victims of domestic violence. Worldwide, code words are now being used to help people draw attention to their emergency situation.

If you go to a pharmacy, you will not only get medication here, but also help with domestic violence – even if you are not alone. For that, the Code word "Mask19" to be expressed when ordering. Word has already got around in France and Spain. Pharmacists are encouraged to inform the authorities and to help. We can only hope that the codes will also get around in Germany.

You're not alone

Women who suffer from domestic violence are currently trapped in a danger zone. Common monitoring and contact points, be it grandparents, schools or congregations, are eliminated in the corona crisis. It is all the more important for victims to know that they are not alone. There is also a way out now. Hotels are required to offer those affected a refuge. The violence against women helpline can still be reached on 08000 116 016.
