Corona current: Retirement home under quarantine after the outbreak

Corona outbreaks are repeatedly reported in nursing homes. In Ochsenfurt, 72 people were infected with the corona virus – now the entire home is under quarantine.

The corona pandemic is keeping the world busy again after a short pause in summer. Germany has been reporting new highs for new infections for a few weeks now – the coronavirus is now spreading uncontrollably. The current development is particularly dangerous for risk groups. But many corona outbreaks are currently reported in nursing homes of all places.

Corona outbreak: 72 out of 102 infected

Now a complete retirement home is under quarantine. In a center in Ochsenfurt in Lower Franconia in Bavaria, a total of 72 employees and patients tested positive for the corona virus. The infected were only discovered in a serial test on Saturday.

Too late: At the time, the virus seemed to have spread in the Curata senior center. The Würzburg health department then decided, according to "BR24", to take a drastic step – the house was completely isolated. Further measures are now to follow specifically for nursing homes, for example quarantine stations could be set up internally to separate infected people from healthy people.

A total of 72 of 102 people tested have so far reported positive, including 46 residents and 26 employees. The majority of the center is infected with the corona virus.

Experience from the first wave shows how dangerous corona outbreaks are in nursing homes. In the spring, numerous residents of the home fell victim to a Covid 19 infection. In a first study in June, researchers assumed that more than half of all Covid-19 deaths in Germany had previously been in care, as reported by the "NDR", among others. The mortality among those in need of care is therefore particularly high.

In order to curb the spread of the corona virus again, Chancellor Angela Merkel has published new measures. The so-called Lockdown Light will apply from November 2nd.
