The Saxon Vogtland is a corona hotspot. Now the vaccination prioritization is to be lifted there so that all adults over the age of 18 can be vaccinated. It could start on Thursday.

Vaccination offer regardless of age

In view of the high number of infections in the Saxon Vogtland, all adults aged 18 and over will soon be able to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. The Saxon Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD) announced on Tuesday in Dresden. For this, the vaccination prioritization of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) in the district must in fact be lifted.

The Vogtland is Saxony's corona hotspot. It is the district with the highest number of new infections with Covid-19. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence there is currently 251.3. In view of the shockingly high numbers, Köpping now wants to pull the rip cord: regardless of age, everyone should be able to get vaccinated.

Logistics and regulations have to be adjusted

Köpping asked for a little patience in the MDR. You need a few days to prepare. The federal vaccination ordinance must be changed, but that will probably happen on Thursday. The logistics must also be increased further. At the earliest on Thursday, March 11th, you can start vaccinating all adult citizens.

A second vaccination center is due to open in Plauen today. The Minister of Social Affairs also announced that she would use mobile vaccination teams and ten vaccination buses.

Köpping also wants to include general practitioners in vaccination across the board. As early as the end of the week, vaccinations should be possible in 40 selected "model practices". In addition, the test capacities are to be expanded. The nationwide vaccination of general practitioners can apparently only start at the beginning of April.
