There was a corona outbreak at the Miele plant in Euskirchen. Around 200 employees are now in quarantine to prevent further infections.

The Robert Koch Institute reported 11,869 new infections with the coronavirus within the last 24 hours in Germany on February 25. The number is higher than a week ago – and shows that the lockdown is now having less effect. There can be various reasons for this: Either people are not following the rules, or the measures are not helping against the mutation that is now also spreading in Germany.

14 infected with corona mutation

One thing is certain: The new corona infections are no longer falling as sharply as before, they are actually increasing slightly and have leveled off on a plateau in the last week. Meanwhile, not only are some federal states opening schools and daycare centers, there are also increasing numbers of corona outbreaks being reported.

At the Miele location in Euskirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, 14 people have so far tested positive for the corona virus, according to WDR. Now around 200 employees have to go into quarantine. All infected are said to have the British virus mutation. The outbreak shows how quickly the virus can also spread in the workplace, especially the mutant, which is believed to be significantly more contagious.

200 employees in cluster quarantine

The generous isolation of the employees is said to be a so-called "cluster quarantine". This was imposed by the district health department. The quarantine of so-called clusters is intended to prevent the coronavirus from being carried on and spread beyond the focus of infection.

Most of the cases of infection at Miele are said to come from the production department. All people working there or people related to the area are now in quarantine.
