Corona currently: 50,000 students in quarantine

Around 50,000 students are currently said to be in quarantine. The number makes it clear that the corona pandemic is not over yet.

This year everything was and is different. While children are likely to have welcomed the first school dropouts at the beginning of the corona crisis, weeks turned into months – and joy turned into frustration. Since the end of the summer holidays, slowly but surely, all children should be going back to school. Nevertheless, there can be no talk of normality.

Whole classes in quarantine

This is shown by current figures, which result from an inquiry to the ministries of the federal states of the "Bild". According to this, around 50,000 students across Germany are currently in quarantine at home.

Germany is unlikely to have even reached its peak. It was only a few weeks ago that school started since summer vacation. There are repeated reports of suspected cases in schools, whereupon entire classes and teachers are sent into isolation. The autumn vacation is now also approaching – and with it another potential source of infection on vacation.

Corona numbers could more than double

But the coronavirus is no longer spread only by returning travelers. As Heinz-Peter Meidinger, President of the German Teaching Association, announces, the number of infections, which are likely to be infected at school, should also increase. In this context, the president warns, according to Deutschlandfunk, of the near future: He assumes that the number of infections will at least double within the next three months.

The faster the number of infections increases, the more difficult it is to trace the contacts. Where did a person get infected with the corona virus? The chains of infection are not always understandable. This in turn makes it difficult to contain the further spread of the coronavirus and to identify all contact persons as quickly as possible.

The quarantine rule is a precautionary measure – it does not yet mean that those affected are also infected. Nevertheless, the 50,000 cases show how high the risk of a corona infection is currently – and not just in schools.
