Last week, more than 76,000 students across Germany were in quarantine due to the Corona crisis. The number of infected people continues to rise in schools.

Germany is in the middle of the third wave of the corona crisis, which the Chancellor described. At the same time, the state is trying to leave schools and daycare centers largely open. Now, however, the increasing numbers of infections are also noticeable there.

76,000 students in corona quarantine

In the week from March 22 to March 28, a total of 76,733 students are said to have been in quarantine. This was announced by the Conference of Ministers of Education in a current overview of the corona numbers for calendar week 12. In addition, 11,052 infected students were reported.

The numbers are also increasing among teachers: In calendar week 12, 6,021 teachers were in quarantine. There were also 1,591 infected people. Previously, there were 4,696 quarantine cases and 1,117 corona cases that were reported for the teachers in calendar week eleven.

Corona cases are increasing compared to the previous week

Compared to the previous week, an increase in corona cases can be observed, especially among the schoolchildren: From March 15 to 21, around 53,000 of them were still reported in quarantine and a further 7,000 schoolchildren were reported as infected.

With the help of comprehensive test strategies and alternating lessons, the schools should now remain as open as possible despite the third corona wave. In the daycare centers it looks different – here the first federal states are already switching back to restricted operations, such as Hamburg, where expanded emergency care is to apply again.

Due to the increasing seven-day incidence in several federal states and throughout Germany, the opening plan had to be interrupted first. This provided for a so-called emergency brake from an incidence of over 100, nationwide this is now 132. Today, Wednesday, the Robert Koch Institute reported 17,051 new infections with the coronavirus within 24 hours.
