The first Corona postponement of the NL season is fact: The game Davos – Zug on Tuesday does not take place. What happened?
Red Bull Munich played the Champions League game in Zug on Wednesday. The Munich tousled the Swiss champions 6: 1 and bowled him out of the competition.
Two days later, the club reported three players sick. It was about the stars Yasin Ehliz, Justin Schütz and Frederic Tiffels. They complained of symptoms on Friday and tested positive.
Nevertheless, Munich played its away game in Augsburg (4: 5 a. V.), because all other players had a negative quick test that day. But then it really started. The club has now confirmed 18 positive cases: 14 players and 4 supervisors. Alarming: Of these 18 sick people, 16 were fully vaccinated.
«It stands to reason that it happened in Zug»
How could that happen? Where did they all get infected? “Given the timing, it stands to reason that this happened in Zug. But it doesn’t have to have happened during the game, ”said DEL manager Jörg von Ameln to“ Merkur ”.
“There has to be one super-spreader – or maybe two – within the team,” said the pharmacologist Fritz Sörgel to the Munich-based AZ.
It is now clear that the EVZ, where all players and coaches have been vaccinated, has so far caught three players. One experienced mild symptoms and did a self-test at home. On Monday, when Zug resumed training after three days off, a second player and a third player tested positive this Tuesday.
“From a preventive point of view, the right decision”
The whole team has now been tested after another five players complained of mild symptoms. And because the results of the PCR tests will not be available until late Tuesday evening at the earliest, the game in Davos was postponed in consultation with the league and the HCD. “I think that from a preventive point of view this is the right decision,” says EVZ sports director Reto Kläy.
The players who tested positive are in quarantine and will not be available for 15 days. The game against HCD will be rescheduled on November 16.
In the National League, where a total of only about 20 players are not vaccinated, which corresponds to a vaccination rate of 90 percent, there had already been corona cases this season. But now a game had to be postponed for the first time.
And memories are awakened: Last season, numerous games had to be postponed due to corona cases and quarantines.
