Corona isolation: family tips for a traditional Easter

The Easter holidays are imminent. Due to the Corona crisis, many cannot celebrate the traditional festival as they actually know it. Exit and contact restrictions make larger celebrations a problem. The Easter egg hunt in the forest also fails for many children. Alexandra Reinwarth, author of "There is a way to get past the ass – Das Kochbuch" knows how Easter is nevertheless becoming familiar and contemplative.

Virtual handicrafts with the grandparents

Since the grandparents belong to the risk group because of their age, children in particular should avoid direct contact with them. Nevertheless, grandpa and grandma can be made happy at Easter. Reinwarth thinks a lot of video calls. "The children can serenade themselves or dress up as Easter bunnies in a video call," explains the bestselling author in an interview with the news agency spot on news. "It doesn't really matter what you do. The main thing is that the grandparents have the feeling that they are there. If you make them laugh, the world looks a lot friendlier."

You don't have to put the children in front of the monitor. "Communication is easier when the grandparents can virtually watch handicrafts or search for Easter eggs. Maybe Grandma and Grandpa also have tips on where to look or praise what the little ones have put together."

Entertainment for the little ones

Even for the little ones, the festival can be made entertaining despite exit and contact restrictions. If you don't have a garden, you can hide small treats with clues in the apartment. "You shouldn't shy away from unusual hiding places, too. Chocolate eggs can be glued to the underside of the table with Tesa, for example," Reinwarth suggests.

Some Easter traditions also do not have to be dropped. "Coloring and coloring eggs is always possible. Hanging on branches and placing them in a vase is the perfect Easter decoration," says Reinwarth. You can also involve your children perfectly when baking Easter cookies. Another idea of the author: If the children are still small, "just dab a few rabbit tracks on the floor at night on Sunday".

Contemplation without a church?

For many people, the Church plays an important role at Easter. Visiting the fair is a major problem because of the corona virus. Help darkness in your own four walls for more contemplation. "For many, the tradition of the Easter fire at night on Sunday is particularly beautiful, which can also be a candle on the balcony this year." You could hear a song that makes you contemplative, such as the "Easter Hallelujah". The best thing to do is to "look at the stars and think about what Easter stands for, namely for renewal, hope and life."
