Corona lockdown: New measures affect gastronomy and tourism

On Wednesday evening, the federal and state governments agreed on stricter corona measures, which should apply from November 2nd.

The federal and state governments have come to an agreement. The rapidly increasing number of corona infections should be stopped with further measures that are to apply from November 2nd until the end of the month. Angela Merkel (66) spoke in a press conference on Wednesday (October 28) of a "national effort" that was once again necessary to curb the increase in the number of infections. These massive restrictions should apply to gastronomy, culture, events and domestic tourism.

gastronomy

Catering establishments as well as bars, discos and pubs should close their doors from November 2nd for the rest of the month. The delivery and collection of food for consumption at home should still be possible. Canteens should also be allowed to remain open.

Culture and events

Events that serve entertainment and leisure are to be largely banned throughout Germany in November. In addition, theaters, operas and concert halls should close from next Monday until the end of the month. Casinos, gambling halls, betting shops, brothels, cinemas, amusement parks and trade fairs are also affected. Professional sport, including the Bundesliga, should only take place in November without spectators. Church services are not affected by the measures. Merkel explained that these could continue to be maintained if the hygiene rules were observed.

From Monday, only a maximum of ten people from two households should be able to meet outdoors. Groups of people celebrating in public places, in apartments and in private facilities are unacceptable in view of the grave situation in our country, "the decision explains.

tourism

Private trips and visits to relatives should be avoided if possible. Tourist accommodation offers in Germany will be banned in November. The offers may only be made for necessary purposes such as compulsory business trips.

Further measures

Other measures include the closure of cosmetic studios, massage practices and tattoo studios. Medically necessary treatments, for example by a physiotherapist, are still possible. Wholesalers and retailers, hairdressing salons as well as schools and kindergartens remain open subject to hygiene requirements. Employers are also asked to enable their employees to work from home.

After two weeks, the Chancellor and the heads of government want to consult again, check the success of the measures and make any necessary adjustments.
