From December 9th, stricter corona measures are to apply in Bavaria. “Corona just won’t give up,” explains Markus Söder.

Because the Free State of Bavaria continues to record high corona numbers, the measures to fight the pandemic are to be tightened again from December 9th. This was announced by Prime Minister Markus Söder (53) after a special cabinet meeting on December 6th. If the Bavarian state parliament agrees, the precautions apply from Wednesday to the beginning of January. The state also declares a disaster.

“I know these are hardships – again, again and again. This is not just for Bayern, it is for the world,” said Söder. “Corona just won’t let up. But neither do we.” Admit to being “not beaten by this virus” and react. The Prime Minister presented a ten-point plan.

These are the measures

A general exit restriction is to be introduced. Citizens are then only allowed to leave their homes for valid reasons, for example to visit the doctor, commuting to work, doing sports, shopping or attending church services. With an incidence of 200 new infections per week, there should be a curfew in hotspots between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Furthermore, a maximum of five people should be able to meet, Christmas is an exception. Up to ten people can meet on the festival from December 23rd to 26th, not including children under 14 years of age. This special regulation does not apply to New Year’s Eve in Bavaria.

Vocational schools are to switch completely to distance teaching, as are all students from the 8th grade in corresponding hotspots. From the 8th grade onwards there should generally be alternating lessons. Meanwhile, people in nursing homes will only be allowed to receive one visitor a day who has to be tested and must wear an FFP2 mask. Employees should be tested twice a week. In addition, Söder asked employers to enable home office.
