Weeks of lockdown turned into months, visits that otherwise brightened the day became a risk – and at some point completely prohibited. And what do you do with yourself when you sit in a retirement home and have no contact with the outside world? You just turn into a rock star. It is obvious.

"The residents have been in lockdown for four months and it is my job and privilege to maintain them during the Covid crisis," Robert Speker writes on the donation page that he has now launched. Because neither the initiator nor the protagonists had counted on the success of the project: The photos that Speker shared on Twitter are now being reported worldwide. The residents of the old people's home want to use this attention – and collect money. Not for yourself, but for other people. The proceeds of the call for donations should go entirely to organizations for dementia and Alzheimer's.
"Older people will have to live in lockdown for a long time and I want to make their time as happy and full of joy and excitement as possible", Robert Speker explains the goal behind his project. He has achieved this – because the photographs of residents of the old people's home have become a symbol worldwide of making the best of every crisis. And so the seniors of Sydmar Lodge Care Homes will remember the Corona period not only as a pandemic, but also as the high point of their personal rock star life.
