Corona rules – Mother’s Day excursion in the car: What is allowed?

Mother’s Day, spring weather – and everything is fine? Well, there is still Corona and corresponding regulations that can affect an excursion. Who can I take with me in the car under the current regulations? Do you have to wear mouth and nose protection? What if I have already been vaccinated? The ARBÖ answers the current questions.

Am I currently allowed to drive a car without restrictions?
During the day, between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., staying outside of the private living area is permitted without restriction, including driving. At night, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., you may only leave your private living area for specific purposes, such as physical or mental relaxation.

Does that mean for the Mother’s Day excursion that I have to be back in my own living area by 8 p.m. at the latest?
No – a Mother’s Day trip outdoors, for example, is considered an activity for physical or psychological recovery. This is a good reason to stay outside of your private living area after 8 p.m.

Can I take my mother with me on a Mother’s Day excursion in the car?
Basically you can take someone with you. However, if a person outside the household is brought along, only two people are allowed to sit per row of seats and a mask is required – see next question!

Do I have to wear mouth and nose protection?
Yes, if the mother or another vehicle occupant does not live in the same household, an FFP2 mask without an exhalation valve or a mask with an equivalent standardized standard must be worn.

What if I have already been vaccinated?
Vaccination currently has no impact on behavioral regulations.

Until when do these nationwide regulations apply?
The 4th Covid-19 Protective Measures Ordinance will expire on May 18, 2021.

Can I go on a trip to another state?
Basically, that’s allowed. However, there are regions in Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Salzburg that require a test when leaving the country. For example, if the excursion goes to Hallein or Oberalm in the neighboring state of Salzburg, a negative test must be presented when leaving the country. The following provisions apply to persons aged 15 and over: A PCR test from the last 72 hours or an antigen test from the last 48 hours is required.

There are exceptions for transit traffic, as well as for people who have done an antibody test in the last 3 months or who have been sick with Covid-19 in the last 6 months – in these cases the corresponding confirmation must be carried!
