In Vienna, corona skeptics wanted to paralyze the city with a car demo on Friday evening. The police had forbidden the protest. Nevertheless, some opponents of the measures made it to the Austrian capital. There were traffic delays and honking.
A video is now spreading on the internet, which is probably being cheered on in the anti-vaccination groups. You can see numerous police cars directing the traffic. Two people film the situation from inside a car. “That doesn’t exist,” says one in astonishment as the car drives past the police column. “Welcome to the banana republic” can be heard behind the camera. The men laugh.
Then the car is stopped. A policewoman comes to the window and asks: “Are you going to the demo?” The answer from the car: “No, I’m going to Doris.” The policewoman waves the men through. “It’s that easy,” says one of the men happily. Then they both laugh out loud. It is unclear whether they went to the demo in the end.
police fight back
The police defended themselves against the abusive video on Twitter. «For your understanding – the assembly of the planned motorcade was prohibited. There is no legal basis to prohibit further travel.” However, this explanation is not enough for some users. “I don’t understand why it isn’t asked: ‘What’s Doris’ last name, where exactly does she live?’ Isn’t that allowed by the police?” writes a woman. “There are dozens of police cars that simply let the demo cars pass. It’s annoying to pay the police so much overtime and they just let everything go, no matter how democracy is fooled by opponents of vaccination.”
However, most are annoyed by the skeptics. “It’s such a mockery of and disrespectful to democratic values, I just think it’s terrible and I can’t understand it!” (man)
