The federal and state governments have come to an agreement. Chancellor Angela Merkel presented the new anti-corona measures on Wednesday evening.

With a delay of one and a half hours, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (66), the Bavarian Prime Minister, Markus Söder (53), and the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller (55), presented the first resolutions on Wednesday evening, the federal and state governments at the Corona summit met in Berlin. The Chancellor made it clear: "We are in a serious phase of the pandemic."

News about mask requirements and events

The press conference in the Chancellery started at 10:15 p.m. Merkel emphasized what an "absolutely important step" is being taken with the new resolutions. In order to respond to the increasing number of infections, far-reaching contact restrictions are being introduced. Means: If up to now a value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week was considered to be the limit, appropriate measures should in future be taken from 35 new infections. Among other things, there is talk of a supplementary mask requirement in public spaces and a curfew in restaurants from 11 p.m.

The number of visitors allowed at events will also experience a further restriction. "With increasing numbers of infections and at the latest from an incidence of 35, a limit of 25 participants in the public and 15 participants in the private area should apply", quoted the "Tagesschau" from the decision. If 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants are registered within one week, the permitted number of participants in public spaces will drop to ten people. A maximum of ten people from two households are allowed to come together for private events.

No agreement on the ban on accommodation

The federal and state governments are still concerned with the ban on accommodation. As Merkel said, no final agreement could be reached on Wednesday. The state of affairs: The existing regulations will be adhered to over the autumn holidays and will be discussed again at a later date.
