Corona virus map: hackers fake page and steal passwords

The corona virus not only brings something new with it, but also brings the usual shady actors onto the scene. Fraudsters copied John Hopkins University's popular corona distribution map to intercept passwords and credit card details. That's what researchers at Reason Cybersecurity found. As with most computer viruses and malware, the same applies here: do not download unknown files! The original "Corona Virus Map" is a website.

Deceptively real look

The problem: The wrong .exe file is currently circulating in various messengers and social media, as well as a link on the Internet. If you download the file, install it and open it, you will actually be shown the expansion map – however, the software attacks your computer in the background. Particularly perfidious: the hackers make use of the actual data of the university, which makes them appear particularly authentic.
