Corona-Warn-App 2.27: New version reveals whether masks are mandatory

The Corona-Warn-App 2.27 is delivered. There is a new function on board that explains the obligation to wear a mask.

On October 1, 2022, the changes to the Infection Protection Act will come into force ( we reported ). Matching this is now the

Corona warning app version 2.27

delivered to users. The Corona-Warn-App 2.27 is already available for iOS devices here in the Apple Store. The app will then be delivered to Android users in the Google Play Store in the next few hours.

The most important innovation:

The Corona-Warn-App 2.27 will show the user in future whether a mask is compulsory for him. “This allows users to have the app show them whether they are exempt from the obligation to wear a mask in certain places in the state they are in,” the developers explain. The whole thing looks like this in the app:

The Corona-Warn-App 2.27 shows whether there is an extended mask requirement in a federal state (note: this is a demo ad, but not an indication of an already existing extended mask requirement in the federal states displayed)

However, a corresponding display of the mask requirement will only appear in the Corona-Warn-App as soon as the extended rules for the mask requirement have been decided in at least one federal state. The federal government explains here that a state parliament may introduce regulations on the obligation to wear masks in two stages for the entire federal state or a specific region if the functionality of the health system or a critical infrastructure is at risk.

Nationwide, from October 1, 2022 up to and including April 7, 2023, FFP2 masks are mandatory in long-distance public transport, in hospitals and care facilities and for visitors to medical practices and healthcare facilities. More detailed information on the rules of the mask requirement can be found in this FAQ for the Corona-Warn-App in the section Mask requirement.

Removed display of status proof

As of version 2.27, the Corona-Warn-App shows the developers have removed the display of the status proof on the digital Covid certificates. “3G”, “3G+”, “2G” or “2G+” are no longer displayed there. The reason for this is that there are no longer any measures and requirements in Germany that are linked to the G status. Users are informed of this with the text: “The status proof is currently not relevant and is therefore not shown by the app.”

Further changes

In the

Vaccination status information box

From version 2.27, the Corona-Warn-App only shows the vaccination status based on the new Infection Act. As of October 1, three vaccinations or two vaccinations with recoveries are required for full vaccination protection. Until now, complete vaccination protection was often achieved after just two vaccinations.

From Corona-Warn-App 2.27, users may also export individual certificates that were not issued in Germany. Previously, this function was only available for certificates issued in Germany. There is still an exception for blocked certificates that may not be exported. The certificate export function is located in the upper right corner of the certificate area. The certificates are exported in PDF format. These PDF documents naturally contain sensitive personal data, so users should handle the exported PDFs with care. For example, these PDFs should not be published on the Internet or simply shared via email.
