Corona-Warn-App: Update makes status view better

In mid-January 2022, the project team from the Robert Koch Institute, Deutsche Telekom and SAP had given the Corona warning app a practical function. Since the update to version 2.16, it has shown the current G status (3G, 2G, 2G+) of users directly above the QR code in the certificate overview based on the stored evidence. For those who have been vaccinated twice or who have recovered, it says 2G. If you have also stored a test, the status becomes 2G+. However, the app also only showed 2G status for citizens with a booster vaccination, even though they belong to the 2G+ group and do not need a test certificate for corresponding events. According to the blog entry, the developers are correcting this with the update to version 2.18.

2G+ now also for boosted users

Accordingly, users with a booster vaccination in the app are now also considered 2G+. But the project team has also made improvements for other statuses. In addition to “classic” boosters, citizens are also considered 2G+

  • full vaccination (from the 15th day), as long as a current test is available
  • incomplete vaccination and additional recovery (from day 29 after a positive PCR test) as long as there is a recent test
  • double vaccination and a recovery certificate (immediately or with the so-called 2/1 certificate from the 15th day)
  • full vaccination and a certificate of recovery (from the 29th day after a positive PCR test)
  • full vaccination (from day 15 to day 90, then 2G status)
  • Recovery certificate (from day 29 to day 90 after positive PCR test), after that no status
  • Certificate of recovery (from day 29 to day 90 after positive PCR test) and incomplete vaccination, then 2G status
  • Vaccination after recovery (valid immediately for 90 days, then 2G status)

In addition, without certificates you have 3G+ status for 72 hours after a negative PCR test, and you are in the 3G group for 48 hours after a negative rapid antigen test. Incompletely vaccinated without recovery or recovered before the 29th and after the 90th day see no status in the app.

Quickly adapt to rule changes

Due to adjustments such as the recent recovery certificate, the status can change quickly in some cases. The project team wants to prevent this by decoupling these rule changes from the app update process. In plain language this means: In future you will no longer have to wait for an update for the Corona-Warn-App if the rules for the G-Status change. The app can now enter these automatically.

There is also a small change to the booster vaccination reminder. It contains a clearer representation.

iPhone owners can now install version 2.18 of the Corona-Warn-App via the App Store. Are you using an Android smartphone? You will then automatically receive the new version within the next 48 hours.
