Coronation of Charles III: this historic image of Prince George holding the train of his grandfather, the King

The coronation of Charles III offers its first historical image: that of the very young Prince George holding the train of his grandfather, the king. We come back to this sequence!

Seventy years ago, Elizabeth II entered the history of the British monarchy by acceding to the throne. Some 2000 greats of this world will attend the same kind of event this Saturday, May 6, 2023. It is indeed within the walls of Westminster Abbey, as is a secular tradition, that will take place the coronation of Charles III. A ceremony which will take place according to a program carefully millimetered by the small hands of Buckingham Palace for months. For the occasion, the king and queen have erected a hand-picked guest list. Guests from all over the world, but also family members whose presence was essentialespecially when a role has been assigned to them.

Five minutes before noon strikes, King Charles III entered alongside the Major Johnny Thompson, an incidentally kilted Scottish army officer, in Westminster Abbey, preceded by Camilla and her pages. The opportunity for the cameras to capture a historic moment: that of the prince georgeher 9-year-old grandson, holding her train. Lord Oliver Cholmondeley, 13, Nicholas Barclay, 13, and Ralph Tollemache, 12, also star in the coveted role of “page of honor“. The eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, will not fail to attract all eyes in the same way as his grandfather and his uncle during the ceremony.

Prince George, a very “mature” heir

We have known for several weeks: Prince George will have a crucial role during the coronation of Charles III. ““Although he is only nine years old, George is very mature and already fully understands the roles of his grandfather and father, as well as his future role.deciphered a source mentioned by our British colleagues from Mirror on April 4th. Camilla meanwhile put her grandchildren contribution for the occasion. Gus Lopes, Louis Lopes and Freddy Parker Bowles officiate as pages in the same capacity as George. “The king is very keen that the members of the line of succession, his natural heirs, are at the center of his coronation”, can we read in the English daily. A page of history is being written before our eyes.
