Coronavirus: Children should be quarantined from parents

If corona is suspected, children should be isolated from their parents separately. The new quarantine form is currently being discussed by the federal states – and raises questions. In the video above you can see why experts are very critical of this step.

Anyone who is sick wants to be with their family. The quarantine regulations to contain the corona pandemic limit this wish. Nevertheless, it is natural for adults to isolate themselves with a positive corona test – solely for the protection of their relatives. But what about children? The health authorities of several federal states are currently discussing this.

Children should be spatially separated if Corona is suspected

The debate is not to exclude children from isolation – but rather to extend it to include direct family members. In the future, children suspected of having Corona should be accommodated separately from their parents. If this is not adhered to, the child should even be taken to a facility as a consequence of the quarantine.

According to information from the online edition of the daily newspaper "Neue Westfälische", the health authorities of the Offenbach and Karlsruhe districts had explicitly requested a quarantine solution for children. Accordingly, "no meals together" should take place. In addition, the affected family members should be isolated in a separate room if Corona is suspected.

The claims are about children between the ages of three and eleven. Due to age in particular, the quarantine regulation meets with incomprehension among parents. For such young children, contact with the family is particularly important, especially if they are ill.

The Offenbach health department has now published a statement on the claim. It says: "Of course, the parents can and should continue to look after the child fully and age-appropriately. As already described, where possible and justifiable, the aim is to find alternatives in everyday dealings with one another. This means, for example, excessive contact with the Avoid siblings – if practicable. "
