Coronavirus: Decathlon diving masks are transformed into respirators for hospitals: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

While hospitals are short of staff and equipment, some are finding ingenious ideas to help them. This is the case of Dr Renato Favera of Gardone Val Trompia hospital, located in northern Italy, who took the initiative of transform the famous Easybreath snorkeling masks of the Decathlon brand… in respirators!

In a short video posted on the website of the Italian start-up Isinnova, with which Dr Renato Favera has teamed up, we can see how it is possible to graft respiratory valves on snorkeling masks. An ingenious process that would help many hospitals. According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Serra, the first prototypes of these respirators are said to have been sent to Chiari Hospital and have been successfully tested. "We are really happy to be able to help"explains Dr. Renato Favera.

For its part, the Decathlon brand explained that it had "agreed to share (his) 3D plans and (his) technical information (concerning Easybreath snorkeling masks) to the most serious and advanced projects". She nevertheless remains very careful and specifies that these masks are not designed to be used as medical equipment : "We remind you that the Easybreath is a mask which was designed only for snorkeling. We are not doctors, and we do not have the skills to support a use in the medical field, but we are at the disposal of research centers. "
