PARIS (Reuters) – France recorded more than 125,000 new cases of coronavirus contamination on Friday, which raised the daily average of new cases over seven days to 99,316, its highest level since April 19.

The daily average of new coronavirus cases had fallen below 18,000 at the end of May, but the trend started to rise again in June after the lifting of the obligation to wear masks and the acceleration of the resumption of international travel.

The number of patients treated in intensive care due to COVID-19 increased by 29 in the space of twenty-four hours.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne encouraged the population this week to respect social distancing and to wear a mask in closed spaces, especially on public transport.

However, she did not indicate that the obligation to wear a mask could be imposed again.
