Coronavirus in England: women tell BBC about their shared flat

Because of the corona virus, it is important to stay at home as much as possible at the moment. For the risk group of over 60-year-olds in particular, there is often another problem. Losing social contacts can lead to increased loneliness, as many older people live alone in their household. A trio of pensioners from Selford in the UK want to counteract this by moving in together.

Doreen, Carol and Dotty have known each other for more than 40 years. The fact that their children are married to one another and that they have grandchildren in common has created a friendship between the three women, the older women reported on the BBC breakfast television. They had already gotten over divorces and losses together. In view of the current situation, they now wanted to take the next step and move in together. The strong restriction of public life and the advice, especially to the elderly, not to leave the house if possible, prompted the three friends to make a decision: Before each of them sits alone and lonely at home, they now want to found a retirement home.

The trio has been spending a lot of time together for years

But before that happens, the three will be in isolation for a week. After all, they wanted to make sure that they were all healthy and did not pose a risk to others. Then they would decide which of the three houses they would move into. There is still no agreement among the three women on this point, they are still considering whether they should choose a large garden or an additional room.

The three friends look relaxed in isolation, after all, they would spend a lot of time together otherwise. For years they have been meeting for lunch and spending their vacations together. If there is tension or boredom, they have already made provisions – with wine. That was the only thing they had bought in stock.
