Coronavirus-Royal Caribbean suspends cruises due to Omicron

January 8 (Reuters) – Royal Caribbean Cruises announced Friday evening the suspension of some of its cruise operations due to the resurgence of cases of contamination with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Services operated by three ships – Serenade of the Seas, Jewel of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas – are now suspended, the cruise line said in a statement.

“We regret having to cancel our guests’ long awaited vacations and salute their loyalty and understanding,” writes Royal Caribbean.

This week, the “Spectrum of the Seas”, which was on a voyage off Hong Kong, was forced to return to port after the report of nine people on board considered to be contact cases of a source of contamination. (Jahnavi Nidumolu report in Bangalore; French version Claude Chendjou)
