(Reuters) – Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology, two of the largest chipmakers, have warned that lockdown in the Chinese city of Xian due to the coronavirus outbreak could affect their production lines located in the region.

Micron said on Wednesday that the lockdown could cause delays in the supply of its DRAM chips, which are widely used in data centers.

The company added that the strict restrictions, which took effect earlier this month, had resulted in downsizing at its manufacturing site.

Samsung said on Wednesday that the group would temporarily adapt the operations of its Xian site, where NAND chips are produced, used in data centers, smartphones and other electronic devices.

Chinese authorities have imposed strict restrictions on travel to and from Xian under Beijing’s “zero covid” strategy.
