(Reuters) – The United Kingdom announced on Friday that travelers arriving in Britain from China will be required to test negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

Passengers coming from China will have to present, from January 5, a negative screening test carried out less than two days before their departure, explained the British Ministry of Health in a press release.

China has been experiencing an epidemic outbreak since the abandonment of the “zero COVID-19” policy in early December, which raises fears of the emergence of new variants.

Airlines will have to verify the tests of each passenger. They will not be able to board unless they present proof of a negative test, it was added.

Many countries, including France, the United States and Spain, have already announced their desire to restore health controls at borders. Beijing authorities denounce “discriminatory” measures.
