Corsica: a hunter accidentally kills himself while putting away his weapon

The 84-year-old man died shortly after paramedics arrived trying to revive him.

An 84-year-old hunter who stored his hunting weapon in his car on Saturday January 7 accidentally killed himself in Prunelli di Fiumorbo (Haute-Corse), the public prosecutor of Bastia told AFP on Sunday January 8. “According to the first findings, the victim is the only one involved“, explained Arnaud Viornery, confirming information from Corse Matin and according to which”it is an accidental firing during handling of the weapon“.

The octogenarian, resident of the town, died shortly after the arrival of help who tried to revive him, from a single buckshot shot in the chest while he was handling his own rifle. An investigation was opened and entrusted to the gendarmerie.

This event occurred two days before the announcement by the government of measures concerning hunting in order to better secure the practice in order to reduce the number of accidents. The prospect of a Sunday ban no longer seems to be on the agenda according to several sources who participated in the consultations which lasted for months.
