The independence party Core in Fronte, a minority in the assembly of Corsica, called on Tuesday April 12 to boycott the second round of the presidential election, so that its request for “recognition of the rights of the Corsican people» is understood as «the future government“.

“For the second round, the patriotic forces must take the initiative of a more massive abstention to send a common political message to the future government: that of the recognition of the rights of the Corsican people and a political solution“, writes Core in Fronte in a press release published on social networks. This appeal joins that launched a few days before the first round by the other island independence party, Corsica Libera.
On Sunday, abstention rose sharply on the island, reaching 37.24% against around 32% in the first round in 2017 and 25.14% throughout France. In its press release, Core in Fronte also deplored that the first round was marked by the arrival at the top of the far-right candidate Marine Le Pen on the island with 28.58% of the votes cast.

“It is up to the patriotic forces to know how to deal with it“, added this party which has six elected members out of a total of 63 in the Assembly of Corsica. Already in 2017, Marine Le Pen had come out on top on this Mediterranean island of 340,000 inhabitants with 27.88% of the votes cast, ahead of François Fillon (25.52%) and nearly 10 points ahead of Emmanuel Macron (18.48% ).
