Corsica: lack of snow, ski resorts are looking for their way

As a result of abnormally high temperatures, the three resorts on the island are closed. With the changing climate, they turn to other activities.

“Teverything is ready. We’re just waiting for the snow…” Hubert Bouvier is getting impatient. For several weeks, the director of the ski resort of Asco (Haute-Corse) has been keeping his eyes fixed on the sky, watching for the arrival of the first snowflakes. Usually, at this time of the year, this site located at the foot of Monte Cinto, the highest peak of the island, is already covered with a white coat. But, for the moment, nothing on the horizon, apart from a light layer of powder snow on the peaks. “Usually, we launch the season at the beginning of January, explains the master of the place. This year, we will have to wait another fortnight, if all goes well…”

For now, this station is still closed, like the other two ski resorts in Corsica. Even snow cannons can’t help it. The reason: temperatures…
