William Dab doesn't mince his words. Tuesday March 16, 2021, France 5 was broadcasting a documentary titled Covid-19: at the origins of a global crisis. Through several testimonies from experts – doctors, sociologists, politicians, among others – this film traces the past year, marked by the coronavirus health crisis. Among these voices is that of the former Director General of Health from 2003 to 2005, which evokes the first weeks of confinement, the entry into force of which dates back to March 17, 2020 – just a year ago. Under bell, the French had taken the habit of encouraging and congratulating the nursing staff, every evening from their window. But according to the epidemiologist, events could have taken a completely different turn. Facing Benoît Chaumont's camera, William Dab deplores: "We applaud our caregivers at 8 p.m. and at noon, we should blame the lack of prevention. " According to the researcher, the Covid-19 epidemic was "preventable".
This is not the first time that William Dab has pointed the finger at government decisions. In July 2020, he declared to the National Assembly, quoted by Release : “Why were we not better prepared when the pandemic was inevitable? There is a reconstruction of public decisions to be made. " And to discuss the controversy around surgical masks, which caused a lot of ink to flow at the start of the spread of the virus. "There was this habitual reflex of fall into a peremptory speech. Instead of saying 'we have no proof of the effectiveness of masks', which is true, we said 'they are not effective, even dangerous' ", he denounced.

Uncompromising on the management of the health crisis of Covid-19, William Dab also spoke on the set of BFMTV, Sunday February 28, 2021. While a possible reconfinement was already on the table, it was expressed thus, without language of wood: "The circulation of the virus is absolutely not under control in France." And to insist: "We remain the only country in Europe where the epidemic's reproduction rate is greater than 1." Alarming statements.
