Counter Strike 2 is very successful but also faces problems since its launch. The latest one is of particular concern for players.
Since its release, Counter-Strike 2 has faced various issues, impacting its reputation compared to its predecessor, CS:GO. The recent discovery of a critical security vulnerability adds to these challenges.
Flaw discovered in Counter Strike 2
A major security flaw has been discovered in Counter-Strike 2, allowing malicious users to obtain the IP addresses of all players connected to a server. In fact, according to information reported by Twitter user Ozzny, several Counter-Strike 2 players have reported a vulnerability in the game. This flaw would allow visual modifications to be made using a simple HTML code to link an image. The major risk is that this opens the door for malicious users to obtain the IP addresses of all players connected to a server, using an IP logger.
Although not officially confirmed, this security flaw raises concerns that an external user could take control of a player’s Steam account, or even their entire computer. This flaw therefore exposes players to significant online security risks.
Quite a few difficulties
The gaming community, particularly via @PirateSoftware, reacted strongly to this announcement. You are advised not to play Counter-Strike 2 until Valve, the company behind the game, fixes this security vulnerability. This concern shows the importance of player confidence in online gaming security
Counter-Strike 2 has suffered a series of issues since its launch. In October, several players were wrongly banned due to AMD Anti-Lag+ drivers triggering an Anti-VAC alert. Although these bans have been overturned, this incident highlights the urgent need for Valve to improve the stability and security of this iconic title.
It’s a shame, because the title remains of good quality. The move to the Source 2 game engine brings significant visual improvements, as well as tweaking and introducing new physics and audio improvements. The user interface has also been modernized, offering a more contemporary appearance.
All that remains is to wait for an official statement from Valve. For our part, we also advise you not to launch the game until the problem is resolved. It seems too risky to play CS2 in case you might lose your Steam account.
