The state of Carinthia is urgently looking for volunteer minders and would like to attract visitors with a special treat. A dedicated bus company in Upper Carinthia, on the other hand, pays the important helpers for their work.
The helpers on the streets ensure that the little ones get to school safely and without stress. “Unfortunately, there are not enough student guides and it is also becoming increasingly difficult to cover all important protection routes and crossings with available volunteers,” says traffic safety officer Sebastian Schuschnig. Volunteers wanted from the seventh grade onwards School guides are also urgently needed for the coming year: not only pupils from the seventh grade onwards, but also pensioners, parents or students can act as guides. “We will also forward the problem to the directors and school representatives,” adds student representative Marie-Christin Mossegger. “Anyone who was or is a volunteer pilot should get a bonus when applying for public service,” says Schuschnig. Unfortunately, that is far too little to be able to secure all important intersections and road crossings.Bus company pays pilotsMore value is placed on the important work of the student pilots by the bus company Bacher Reisen: “In the Liesertal and Maltatal we have five at the beginning of school and along the Feldkirchen route six pilots,” says Marlene Bacher. And they get paid too. “They receive 40 euros a day for their important work, which must also be rewarded.” The watchdogs are now indispensable. “The parents are infinitely grateful that pilots are watching over their children.” The school pilots receive theoretical and practical training.
