Course correction necessary – climate protectors are driving up heavy horsepower guns

Fridays for Future herald the final phase of the election campaign with protests: Whether with a tractor demonstration in the St. Pölten government district or camping in front of the country house. The activists want to use every day until the state elections.

Just in time for the state elections on Sunday, climate activists bring out the heavy artillery: Fridays for Future (FFF) mobilized with loud engine noise and plenty of horsepower at a tractor demonstration in the St. Pölten government district against road construction projects. Support in the fight against the S34 and the eastern bypass in Wiener Neustadt comes from local farmers. Because the big climate problem child is traffic: “Around half of the greenhouse gas emissions in Lower Austria come from road traffic. We have to stop implementing huge road construction projects,” emphasizes Alina Koller (FFF). “The S…34 would seal valuable soil forever,” says Andreas Hieger, farmer affected by the road construction project in St. Pölten. That turns the state parliament into a climate election.Protestcamp in front of the LandhausThe activists have been camping in front of the Landhaus since Sunday as a sign of the massive protest against Lower Austria’s climate policy. Because “too little, too slow” must finally become “fast and sufficient”. “We would like to remind the politicians every day before the election: You will be the last state government that can still correct the Lower Austrian climate course in the direction of 1.5 degrees. Our future is non-negotiable,” explains Johanna Frühwald (FFF). Setting visible signals Each party is required to present a sensible climate protection program. Just last week, almost 1,000 participants in 89 locations set a visible sign in terms of climate protection – from the music walk in Prinzersdorf to the bicycle rally in Waidhofen an der Thaya.
