For ten years they played best friends, who later even became lovers. Now Courteney Cox is mourning the loss of her long-time friend and “Friends” colleague Matthew Perry. The first photos after his death show her saddened.

Courteney Cox, 59, appears sad and dejected as she returns from dinner with friends at the chic Nobu restaurant in Malibu on October 31, 2023. The two had more in common than working together for ten seasons of “Friends” – they were also friends in real life.

From 1994 to 2004 she played the role of the order-loving Monica Geller, who would later fall in love with and even marry her long-time boyfriend Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry. A few days after the actor and comedian’s death, Cox and her “Friends” colleagues Jennifer Aniston, 54, Lisa Kudrow, 60, Matt LeBlanc, 56, and David Schwimmer, 57, released a joint statement on the sudden death of their friend. “We are all deeply devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just colleagues. We are a family,” it says. “There is so much to say, but for now we will take a moment to grieve and process this incredible loss.”

Matthew Perry’s cause of death initially unclear

Matthew Perry was found lifeless in the hot tub at his home in Los Angeles, California on Saturday. The actor has been open about his long-term battle with alcohol and drug addiction in the past and even processed his experiences in his book “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.” However, according to the US celebrity site “TMZ”, initial toxicological tests showed that Perry had neither the drugs crystal meth nor fentanyl in his blood at the time of his death. It is said that the determination of the exact cause of death could take several more months.
