The next loss for King Charles III: His first cousin, Max Margrave of Baden, died at the age of 89.
The British royal family had another loss to mourn at the end of the year: Max Margrave of Baden (1933-2022), a first cousin of King Charles III. (74), died on December 29 at Salem Castle in Baden-Württemberg. That has the house of Baden announced on its homepage. He was 89 years old.
The statement goes on to say that Max Margrave of Baden “since 1963 was the head of the house at the head of the formerly ruling Grand Duchy of Baden’s princely house, which from 1112 to 1918 provided the sovereigns in the Baden part of today’s federal state of Baden-Württemberg”. His successor is now Bernhard Margrave of Baden (52), “the previous hereditary prince” and son of the deceased.
Connection to King Charles III.
King Charles III has not yet commented on the loss of his relative. The deceased’s mother, Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark (1906-1969), was a sister of Prince Philip (1921-2021), husband of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) – and thus a first cousin of Charles and his siblings.
Max Margrave of Baden leaves behind his wife Valerie, to whom he has been married since 1966, and their three children. According to Haus Baden, both an open and a closed funeral service are planned.
