With its 625 km of autonomy, the new Audi Q6 e-tron inaugurates for the first time the new PPE platform co-developed with Porsche. A way for the manufacturer to continue its slogan “ novelty through technology » by laying new foundations in terms of autonomy, technology and charging power.

As Audi’s first vehicle to use the electric-specific PPE platform, the Q6 e-tron seeks to establish itself in the electric SUV category, offering a solid alternative to the Tesla Model Y. This vehicle, which embodies the brand’s iconic slogan “ Vorsprung durch Technik » (progress, through technology) is based on the innovative PPE platform developed jointly with Porsche. We will also find similarities with the Porsche Macan.

This architecture, specifically designed for electric vehicles, provides Audi with a technical foundation to explore new advancements in integrated features, range, speed, charging and overall performance.

Sober but muscular style

Audi’s Q6 e-tron has imposing proportions that set it apart within the manufacturer’s range. With a length of 4.77 meters, it is positioned slightly above the Q5 model, thus offering a more assertive stature. Its width reaches 2.19 meters and its height rises to 1.70 meters, while its wheelbase of 2.90 meters promises a spacious interior, complemented by a trunk volume of 526 liters. When the rear seat is folded, the available volume expands to 1,529 liters, without forgetting an additional space of 64 liters located at the front of the vehicle.

The design of the Q6 e-tron aligns with Audi’s signature aesthetic, incorporating an imposing closed singleframe grille, decorative elements evoking air intakes on the front spoiler, as well as pronounced wheel arches which soften the lines while adding a touch of robustness to the whole. Despite its dynamic appearance, the vehicle maintains a sober appearance. A notable innovation is OLED headlights, capable of displaying specific light signals, such as a danger warning triangle to alert other drivers, a first in the automotive sector.

Luxury is screens

Inside the Audi Q6 e-tron, occupants are greeted by a resolutely modern environment, dominated by an innovative dashboard. This is equipped with an 11.9-inch digital display for the driver and a 14.5-inch central screen for the infotainment system, which runs Android Automotive OS with an Audi-specific interface. These screens merge visually to cover almost the entire surface of the dashboard, offering a refined aesthetic, but raise questions about the disappearance of physical controls (particularly for the air conditioning) replaced by touch controls.

Same comment regarding the profusion of haptic controls on the steering wheel and the door panels where we even notice that the headlight control is offset to the left armrest. Finally, some customers will not fail to be confused by the untimely use of black lacquered plastics, which soak up too many fingerprints, and recycled materials which lower the perceived quality given the price.

However, the passenger will be able to benefit from a 10.9-inch touch screen (which also reduces its viewing angles so as not to distract the driver). Apps such as YouTube are available through the third-party app store, which is integrated directly into the MMI and does not require a smartphone.

The following applications are available from launch: music,
video, games, navigation, parking and charging, productivity, weather
and information services. The Bang & Olufsen Premium audio system powers
22 speakers with a power of 830 watts. Four of them are integrated into the headrests of the front seats, making it possible for the first time to create sound zones in an Audi.

Dynamic Interaction Lighting (IAL) offers a variety of functions
communication and thus supports the interaction of the car with its
occupants. Finally, the standard equipment also includes an integrated route planner.

Driving aids

In terms of driving aids, the new Audi Q6 e-tron conventionally integrates rear parking assistance, cruise control, lane departure warning, efficiency assistance, active steering assistance. the front and a drowsiness alert system. The novelty lies in the adaptive driving assistant which also uses map data and data from other vehicles aggregated in the network in addition to relying on the radar sensors, the front camera and the ultrasonic sensors to improve the guidance.

Power and autonomy

Audi’s Q6 e-tron, with a 100 kWh battery, promises a range of up to 625 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, and slightly less for the SQ6 e-tron model with 598 kilometers. A crucial aspect of this vehicle is its fast charging capability thanks to the 800 volt infrastructure of the PPE platform allowing a recharge of 10 to 80% in 21 minutes with a power of up to 270 kW. For charging stations limited to 400 volts, the system allows charging to be divided into two simultaneous 150 kW sessions, thus optimizing charging time.

At launch, Audi offers two versions: the Q6 e-tron and the SQ6 e-tron, both benefiting from a twin-engine configuration and all-wheel drive, offering powers of 387 hp and 517 hp respectively. These features allow the Q6 e-tron to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and in 4.3 seconds for the SQ6, with maximum speeds of 210 km/h and 230 km/h.

Price and availability

The Audi Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron models can be ordered from
March 27, 2024, with prices set at €83,450 for the Q6 e-tron and €99,870 for the SQ6 e-tron, and the first deliveries planned for summer 2024. In comparison, the Tesla Model Y Performance, offering a range of 514 kilometers, is priced at €55,990. Furthermore, the electric Porsche Macan, which shares the same PPE platform, is sold at €86,439.
