Records keep coming. Some 335,000 new Covid-19 contaminations should be recorded in France on Wednesday January 5, a record, while 66,000 new French people have also received a first dose of vaccine, announced the Minister of Health Olivier Véran. “Public Health France will communicate its figure this evening, but from memory, we were today at 335,000 contaminations in our country,” said Olivier Véran during the debates in the National Assembly on the bill establishing a vaccine pass. As of Tuesday, a total of 271,686 cases of Covid-19 had been recorded in 24 hours, already a record.
Olivier Véran was also pleased that 66,000 new French people received a first dose of vaccine on Wednesday, a figure that had not been reached since October 1. The Minister of Health implied that this clear increase in first-time injection had a link with the debates on the vaccine pass and the controversial remarks of Emmanuel Macron, slipping that he did not believe “by chance”.
Five million French people still without injection against Covid-19
“If we did this for 70 or 75 days, we would have complete protection of the French population with regard to serious forms,” the minister told the National Assembly. As a reminder, some five million French people have not received an injection against Covid-19, of which about a fifth are considered to be populations at risk.
In an interview with the Parisian, Tuesday, January 4, Emmanuel Macron had attacked in a virulent way the unvaccinated, causing indignation in the ranks of the opposition. The President of the Republic had declared to be decided to “piss off” the unvaccinated “until the end” by “limiting for them, as much as possible, the access to the activities of the social life”.
