Covid-19 at school: students encouraged to put their masks back on

DSince March 14, students can once again breathe fresh air in the classroom and in the playground. Wearing a mask against Covid-19 is no longer imposed indoors, especially in schools. While France has observed an upsurge in contamination in recent days, the end of the compulsory mask raises fears of an explosion of new cases. School principals have sent emails to parents of students, recommending that this constraint be reinstated for seven days if their child is in contact. “We will not control the return of students to class but are counting on your civic sense”, according to an email echoed The ParisianThursday, March 24.

According to the new National Education health protocol, students are no longer required to wear a mask. The latest figures show 52,669 students infected with Covid-19 as of March 18. For the cabinet of Jean-Michel Blanquer, questioned by The Parisian, only a prefectural decision, in the event of a local cluster, could impose the return of the mask to the nose and mouth of the students. Bringing out the fabric or paper masks is therefore up to the goodwill of the people concerned or their parents.

The return of the mask to Brest

The recommendations of some heads of establishments go badly with associations, including the federation of parents of students in public education (Peep). “It is not within their jurisdiction, they are overstepping their responsibilities. If they start sending emails, the risk is that all the parents think that it is again an obligation, “said its vice-president Laurent Zameczkowski in the columns of the Parisian.

Faced with the epidemic resumption of the Omicron variant, some schools have nevertheless decided to reinstate this measure, particularly in Brest. According to The Telegramthe students of three colleges and high schools have again been forced, since March 17, to wear their masks in the classroom and in the courtyard.
